Associate Professor Vanessa Morgan studied medicine at the University of Melbourne and attended the Royal Melbourne Hospital clinical school.  She was awarded the Herman Lawrence Prize in Dermatology.  She graduated in 1992.

Before commencing training as a specialist dermatologist Vanessa gained experience in several medical fields including plastic surgery and paediatrics.  Her training as a dermatologist gave her a wide experience in complex medical dermatology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Alfred Hospitals, paediatric dermatology at the Royal Children's Hospital and specialty clinics at the Skin and Cancer Foundation and St Vincent's Hospitals including photobiology, lymphoma, melanoma, hair and nail clinics,  skin cancer surgery and some cosmetic dermatology.

Vanessa achieved the highest mark in Australia in the fellowship exams of the Australian College of Dermatologists in 2001 for surgical and procedural dermatology.

In 2002 Vanessa began her private practice at 766 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne.  She was appointed as a consultant dermatologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Children's Hospital and the Skin and Cancer Foundation. She became Head of Unit at RMH in 2022.

Vanessa is active within the College of Dermatologists being recently the Chair of the Victorian Faculty of Dermatologists and teaching dermatology trainees and medical students.
